Dr Barry Den FRANZCO is an ophthalmologist, and an ophthalmic and LASIK / LASEK surgeon. He has carried out approximately 5000 cataract, corneal and eyelid procedures during the course of his 22-year career.
Dr Den has carried out corrective laser eye surgery (LASIK) since it was recognised, over a decade ago, as the preferred means of treating refractive error. He has used the technique to restore clear vision to hundreds of people throughout the state of New South Wales, Australia, where he now practices.
He trained at Sydney Eye Hospital, Sydney University, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, and also in Boston, Massachussetts, under Dr Steven Slade (recognised internationally as a pioneer in the LASIK procedure).
Amongst Dr Den's own pioneering activities upon his return to Australia, was his work with a special microkeratome designed specifically for performing LASIK on Asian eyes. He was one of the first Australian ophthalmic surgeons to introduce the use of intraocular lenses for conditions causing extreme astigmatism of the cornea.

Aside from surgical skill, Dr Den is an advocate of highly personalised patient / surgeon relationships – including the provision of high quality pre-operative and post-operative care.
He is able to offer this high standard of care to his patients through his choice to practice in a private clinic environment in Ashfield, New South Wales.
Whilst his surgical procedures are performed at the state-of-the-art Sydney Eye Specialist Centre (one of the best-equipped refractive surgical facilities in Australia), Dr Den provides all pre-operative and post-operative care in the small and personalised environment of his own facility, Ashfield Eye Clinic.
A firm believer in the importance of fostering high levels of patient confidence and emotional comfort, consulting with his patients in this environment provides the opportunity for informative and highly productive surgeon-and-patient communication.
Ms Dang holds a Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of Sydney. She majored in orthoptics. She has worked as an orthoptist and ophthalmic assistant for 12 years, ten of those assisting Dr Barry Den.
